Afterschool Meals Program

What is the purpose of this service?

The purpose of the Afterschool Meals Program is to provide reimbursement to after school care organizations to ensure that each child participating in their program will receive a healthy, nutritious meal or snack.

Who can receive these services?

School aged children between the ages of 5-18 are eligible to receive these services.

How are the services provided?

The meals are provided by the approved afterschool care organizations who are a public or private nonprofit organization (for-profit organizations must apply and be approved to participate on the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) prior to being approved to participate on the ASP) whose programs must be located in a school area where at least 50% or more of the children in its attendance are eligible for free or reduced price meals.

What services are offered?

Afterschool care providers must offer regularly scheduled educational or enrichment activities in a supervised environment in addition to creditable meal or snack items.

How to apply?

Orientation classes for the Afterschool Meals Program are held every month. The classes are held in Columbia, SC. Applications to participate on the program are distributed at the orientation. During the orientation, we will review the program regulations, requirements, forms and other specifics of the afterschool meals program. After the training, you have 90 days to submit a completed application and then you are on your way to receiving reimbursement for serving healthy, nutritious meals or snacks!
